Wave 00
In my spare time at work I started playing around with tessellation, and decided to make a couple into desktop patterns. That's about it.
Wave 01
Some method to the madness, but largely experimentation. Trying different methods, seeing what worked, from the way I went about designing the tiles to the setup to the method of rendering. I went through the steps I had set up, regardless of how I felt it looked. I concentrated more on the individual tile shape, rather than the pattern as a whole. The circles were an afterthought, but turned out to deserve a unique approach all their own. Still, in this set, the circles are tied to the lines in that the former was derived from the latter, not on their own. Some of the colors leave a bit to be desired. Many tiles are interesting for their geometry but can cause headaches or extreme difficulty in finding icons in actual use. Usually I'd just pick some colors and leave my first or second choices as-is, then move on to the next tile. Again, test patterns here. But some nice tiles regardless.
Wave 02
These were more deliberately created than the previous waves. I had a better understanding of the relationships between the shapes and tried out a few new rendering methods. Rather than the "warts 'n all" approach from the previous wave, I edited and changed and scrapped ideas that didn't work. Wave 0 is the garage jam, wave 1 is the recording session. This is the demo tape.
Wave 03
Enough with the circles already. I explored various methods of Islamic star patterns and also my own permeations. The underlying grids are for the most part more complex than most of the other tiles to date. A lot more potential with this method, but maybe in a later wave. The tiles are different sizes, but the like elements (stars and various polygons) are the same size between the tiles.
